报告人简介：

Alex Toftgaard Nielsen is a professor at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability at the Technical University of Denmark. His research focuses on production of biochemicals and proteins by metabolic engineering of bacterial cell factories. He is educated at the Technical University of Denmark and Stanford University, and he has also worked extensively in the biotech industry during his career. Professor Nielsen is additionally the co-founder of a number of biotech companies.

摘要：

Decreasing our dependence on fossil resources is highly important for minimizing our impact on global warming. Biochemicals can be produced efficiently using microbial cell factories, however, there is still a need for novel efficient production pathways as well as methods for increasing productivity. Different approaches for optimizing production of proteins and biochemicals, such as for example the amino acid, L-serine, will be shown. The presentation will also cover the use of novel tools for solving some of the bottlenecks in cell factories, including the use of adaptive laboratory evolution for increasing product tolerance, the use of novel reporter systems for investigating and improving protein folding, as well as methods for decoupling growth from production, which have the potential to further increase production yield.
