JU CHU, Professor Ju Chu, from East China University of Science and Technology(ECUST)

      One of the leading bio-processing professors in China who has devoted herself to research on microbial physiology, fermentation process optimization and scale-up for more than 20 years. She has been responsible for some Chinese major scientific projects, the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), the National Scientific and Technological Major Special Project (Significant Creation of New drugs as well as some international collaborative projects, China-Scoland Higher Education Collaboration Project (2010 - 2011) with Prof. Iain Hunter in Strathclyde University, UK. Sino-Dutch Partnership in Research and Innovation(2013-2016), “Rational design and scale-up of aerobic industrial fermentation process” with Prof. Robert Muddle in Delft University of Technology and Prof. Henk Noorman, Royal DSM N.V. in the Netherlands. She has published 4 books and more than 100 papers in international journals.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PAST FIVE YEARS 

Take charge in the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) “Improvement of the performance of cephalosporin C producing strain Acremonium chrysogenum by metabolic engineering and its fermentation process optimization”, No. 2006AA020302, RMB 6,800,000. (2006-2011).

She has published 136 SCI papers and achieved more than 20 Chinese patents.

SELECTED HONORS AND AWARDS

“Industrial fermentation technology based on the integration of microbial physiology and flow field property in bioreactor”, won the Second Prize of  National Award for Science and Technology Progress (2011) by Chinese central government.

“Advanced fermentation technology for improved erythromycin production”, won the first prize of Shanghai Municipal Award for Science and Technology Progress(2008) by the Shanghai municipal government.

“The Key technology for the improvement of “I+G” production”, won the Second Prize of  National Award for Science and Technology Progress(2004)

“Fermentation process optimization and scale up technique based on multi-parameters association”, won the Second Prize of National Award for Science and Technology Progress.(2002)

“Process optimization and scale up of erythromycin fermentation”, awarded second prize of Shanxi Provincial Award for Science and Technology Progress (2002)

“A Multi-scale study on Fermentation process and optimization of a novel additive”, guanosine production, won the first prize of Shanghai Municipal Award for Scientific and Technical Progress(2003)

“Make high specific active gene of phytase and production of phytase resisting high temperature”, awarded the first prize of  Shanghai Municipal Award for Science and Technology Progress (2003)

“Fermentation process optimization and scale up technique based on multi-parameters association and the study on the bioreactor equipments”, awarded the first prize of Shanghai Municipal Award for Science and Technology Progress (2001)
