Liming Zhao

Zhao Li-Ming, Ph.D., Professor.

Zhao Li-Ming is the professor in the department of food science and technology at East China University of Science and Technology. Zhao is the Director of R&D Center of Separation and Extraction Technology in Fermentation Industry (“SETCFI”), and he is also the Dean of ECUST—HI-TECH Biobased Material Research Institute. Zhao received his Doctor Degree in Food Science from Jiangnan University, and he also holds a M.D. in Food Science and Technology from Wuxi University of Light Industry. He did his visiting professor at University of California Davis for 1 year from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. Zhao’s research focuses on separation and purification technology, separation technology and equipment, and biobased materials. Specially interests in: 1) membrane and chromatography separation technology and equipment; 2) chitin and its derivatives; 3) functional foods and bioactive compounds in natural products for nutrition and health-care; 4) Biobased material research; 5) integrated utilization of wastewater in food and fermentation industry, and so on.

Zhao has published more than 40 original scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Zhao published his monograph of the Application of Membrane Technology in Food and Fermentation Industries in July 2011, and wrote one chapter in the published monograph Foods for Pregnancies and Nurse Mother which was published in Jun. 2001. He is also the editor in chief of a teaching book Principle of Food Engineering (Scheduled by Ministration of Education of China ), which was published in Sept. 2013. During the past several years, Dr. Zhao has applied for 25 patents, among which 12 of them have been authorized. He is now taking charge in 2 National Nature Science Funding project. And he has finished a sub-topic of “863” project and taking charge in 2 topic of “863” projects now, and he also had finished a research project of Wuxi Youth Talent Support Project. Dr. Zhao takes charge in several research projects from enterprises.

Dr. Zhao has rich of experiences in R&D and engineering because he had ever worked for companies for 9 years before he came to ECUST in 2010. As project manager, Dr. Zhao has hosted to develop, design and build several production lines during his engineering experience, for example, China’s first soybean edible phospholipids production line (15 tons/day) by membrane technology, 20000 tons/year PDO separation workshop, 20000 tons/year D-Sodium Isoascorbate separation workshop; and participated in the development and design 400000 tons/year crystallization glucose extraction plant, and a 50000 tons/year of L- lactic acid factory.

Dr. Zhao is the member of Youth Work Committee, China Association of Food Science and Technology (From 2010); Director, Expert of Technician Committee, China Association of Biology and Fermentation Industry (From 2011); Expert of Experts Committee, China Health–care Association; Director of Shanghai Food Institute; Consultant of China Light Industry Xi’an Design Engineering Institute; Editorial Boards of Development of Biotechnology; Invited reviewer of Desalination , Journal of Food Science and Engineering.
